What an enjoyable romp! I can relate to this story. My mom raised four kids by herself without child support. On special occasions we went to MacDolalds. If we had a plain burger we could have a milkshake. If we wanted cheese on it we could only have a soda. Your story reminded me of when I bought my first expensive dress at Nordstroms for a Christmas party at my job. I was blown away by helpers at the store bringing me different dresses and sizes to try on. That doesn't happen at KMart. :) I finally gave that dress away when we became full-time RVers. I kept a dress for over 30 years that I hadn't fit into for at least 25. I have done pretty well for myself but I still battle with the frugal me becasue of the lack I experienced growing up. Thanks for a great read. I share a self-deprecation story in this article: https://charissetyson.medium.com/he-shoved-me-off-of-the-barstool-and-i-landed-on-the-throne-of-grace-26ec1a799789
