Turning a Long Post Into Shorter Ones in a Series Was a Brilliant Idea!
A fellow writer's suggestion was great!
One of the things I love about Medium is the challenges fellow writers put forward to inspire us to write.
I’ve been following J.R. Heimbigner for a long time. He is generous with writing advice, and I’ve learned a lot from him. He proposed a challenge in his Substack newsletter that we write a 250-word post every day in January. I responded, telling him I had trouble writing short, but I was up for the challenge.
On the second of January, I dove in head first, and sure enough, what was supposed to be a 250-word post turned into an 895-word one. When I told J.R. about it in Substack, he suggested I turn it into a series. What fabulous advice! I wound up with three posts instead of one. Shorter posts may get more reads. I know I only open four-minute read posts when I don’t have much time to read.
I’m so excited to see how January goes! Yesterday, my husband and I checked into the Highland Lakes Camp and Conference Center in Spicewood, Texas. We are here with our ministry group, Roving Volunteers in Christ’s Service, or RVICS. We will start work on Monday doing whatever the campground needs and finish on the 25th.
