It took me seven years to write my memoir because I lacked a direction for it. Attending writing conferences changed everything for me. I met my editor at one of the conferences I attended. I don't know if they have them in your area, but they are a worthwhile investment. Some can be pricey, but they come in all shapes and sizes.
